Your journal belongs to you

Time Quilt saves your writing and journal records on your device. You can connect a folder to keep a Markdown archive, including a folder in iCloud Drive. There is no Time Quilt account or central journal server in the current beta.

Time Quilt does not sell your personal data, use it for advertising, or use your journal to train AI models. Optional connections process data only to provide the features described below.

What the app reads and saves

• Writing and summaries. Entries you type or dictate, imported notes, saved source records, generated summaries, and earlier summary revisions.
• Calendar. With your permission, events from the calendars you select become journal context. Calendar access records plans, not proof that you attended.
• Photos. With your permission, the app reads accessible photos, capture dates, and available location metadata. Automatic photos stay in Apple Photos. Manually attached photos create display copies in app storage and your connected archive; originals stay in Photos.
• Locations. If you enable visit logging and grant location access, the app saves detected visits, arrival and departure times, coordinates, and place labels. It uses Apple visit monitoring rather than continuous GPS recording. Apple map services provide maps and resolve coordinates into place names. Saved visits are not included in AI summary evidence.
• Gmail. If you connect Google, the app uses read-only access to retrieve your account email and message information, including subjects, senders, snippets, and bounded body excerpts for classification. It saves selected personal life updates as summary context. It cannot send, change, or delete your email.
• WHOOP. If you connect WHOOP, the app uses read-only access to retrieve and save sleep, workouts, recovery, and daily strain. These records appear on your day pages and provide context for daily summaries.
• Voice recordings. Talk records audio when you start recording. Audio is sent to OpenAI when you choose to transcribe. The transcript can become journal writing. The temporary recording is removed when you finish or discard the capture.

Connections are optional. You can use writing without granting access to these sources. Previously saved imports can remain after a connection is removed.

AI and optional cloud processing

Time Quilt uses Apple Intelligence on the device for supported classification and summary features when it is available. Optional OpenAI fallback is off by default. If you enable it and supply your own API key, bounded journal text and source excerpts can be sent to OpenAI for email classification and daily summaries. That can include sensitive information contained in your writing, calendar events, email, or saved WHOOP health records.

Voice transcription uses OpenAI separately from the summary fallback setting. Photo files are not sent to AI. Time Quilt requests that OpenAI not store Responses API results, but this does not eliminate all provider retention. OpenAI processes requests under your API account and its API data controls, including applicable security and abuse-monitoring retention. OpenAI states that API data is not used for training by default unless you opt in.

Time Quilt uses Google data only to provide your requested journal features. Its use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google data is not used for advertising or to develop or train generalized AI models.

Connecting WHOOP

WHOOP sign-in uses a service at jacobjolibois.com hosted on Vercel. It exchanges authorization codes and refresh tokens with WHOOP. Credentials pass through this service in memory; it does not keep a database of tokens or retrieve your sleep and activity data. A secure sign-in cookie expires after ten minutes. An encrypted return ticket expires after two minutes and requires proof from the app that started sign-in.

The app retrieves health records directly from WHOOP and saves selected details in your journal and connected archive. It reads your WHOOP profile identifier to keep accounts separate. The first sync covers the past 30 days. Later syncs refresh recent records and can retrieve an older day you select. WHOOP strain is not measured stress; the app does not claim that a calendar event caused a health change.

Storage, sync, and security

Journal data, attachments, source snapshots, and summary history are stored as files. Local backups and migration snapshots may also contain copies. If you choose iCloud Drive, Apple transports and stores the archive under your Apple account. A local folder does not provide cloud sync.

The Markdown archive is readable by you and by apps or people you allow to access that folder. Time Quilt does not add a separate encryption layer to the archive. Your device, folder permissions, cloud provider, and backups determine who can access those copies.

Google and WHOOP credentials and your OpenAI API key are kept in the device Keychain, outside the journal archive. Network calls to Google, WHOOP, the sign-in service, and OpenAI use HTTPS. No storage or transmission method can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and deletion

You can change Photos, Calendar, Microphone, and Location permissions in system settings. Disable visit logging to stop new visit collection. Disconnect Gmail in Time Quilt and revoke access through your Google account. Disconnect WHOOP in Time Quilt to request revocation and remove local credentials. If revocation fails, you can remove credentials from this device and revoke Time Quilt through WHOOP. Remove your OpenAI key or turn off cloud fallback to stop future requests for those features.

Disconnecting a service or archive does not erase saved journal records, summaries, or files. The app keeps them until you remove them. To erase all copies, remove the relevant app data and archive files on each device, along with backups and any cloud recently deleted copies. Disconnect archive sync on your devices first so a remaining copy is not synced back. Removing the app alone does not remove a separate archive or every Keychain item.

There is no central journal database for Jacob to erase. Contact the address below if you need help locating your data or exercising applicable privacy rights. Provider-held records remain subject to that provider’s policies. If you email for support, your email address and the information you send are used to respond; please do not send journal or health data unless it is needed.

App diagnostics and this website

If you request TestFlight access on this website, we store your email address and request date in Supabase to manage beta invitations and contact you about access. Your signup is separate from your journal. To withdraw your request or ask us to delete it, email jacobjolibois@hey.com.

The current Time Quilt app does not include an advertising or third-party analytics SDK. Apple may process App Store, TestFlight, crash, or diagnostic information according to your Apple settings and its policies.

This policy page and the WHOOP sign-in service are hosted on Vercel. Vercel may process operational request logs for the service; these are separate from the journal archive. The website uses Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights for page-visit and performance information. Website requests may include technical information such as IP address, browser, and requested URL. Visiting this page does not give the website access to your Time Quilt journal.

Children and policy changes

Time Quilt is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has sent personal information to the developer, contact the address below.

We will update this page and its effective date when practices change. New connections require the relevant permission before accessing their data.
